“Let’s walk on new ground”
Our skin colours perfectly complement each other
and yet you can’t look past our differences
Our life stories have taken us from opposite ends
from the beginning – they’ve brought us face-to-face
and yet you can’t appreciate our uniqueness
I speak a language among nations
South Africa – Ningizimu Afrika
Lolimi luphethe ekhaya
Let’s put down this weight which so easily entangled us
Let’s take up this Rainbow Nation
Where we dive into each other’s stories,
each other’s cultures
and each other’s languages
Where the language of one is the language among all
And all embrace our diversity
All embrace our single-mindedness
My heart beats with a rhythm
With the rhythm in you – a song freshly flows
With the fully fledged colours in this world
We can conquer hand-in-hand – and start the year on new ground
| Personal | |
| This message is directed to the people in South Africa; let’s let go of the differences which often place us at opposite ends – let’s rather use our differences, let’s use our various flavours to unite |
| Empowering | |
| Our goal with this poem is unity. It is not unity in thought but rather unity in action- our goal for a rainbow nation requires us to do something to bring it into reality. What are you doing about it? What are you going to do to bring it to reality? |
| World | Driver |
| Our vision for the world is that of a rainbow nation where every language, every culture and above all every ethnicity is embraced across the globe |
| Now | – Future |
| The easiest way to uproot racism and any form of discrimination is by calling people out, informing them of their wrong-doing and make it clear that it has no place in our society. |
